A New Way to Frame Your Barndominium: Inside 1845’s Cold-Formed Steel Innovation
At 1845 Barndominiums, steel has always been central to how we build. Now, we’re taking that commitment a step further by bringing cold-formed steel (CFS) framing into our manufacturing process, creating new opportunities for precision, efficiency, and customization.
Manufactured right here at our Hallsville, Texas, facility, this new framing system expands how we approach each project and gives us another way to bring thoughtfully designed barndominiums to life.
Bringing Cold-Formed Steel In-House
Cold-formed steel is manufactured by shaping steel at room temperature into precise structural components. At 1845, this process allows us to produce pre-assembled wall panels, trusses, and other framing components designed specifically for each project.
By manufacturing these components in-house, we can tailor the framing package to the needs of an individual design. Rather than relying on a one-size-fits-all approach, we can consider the layout, structure, and architectural details of each home from the beginning.
CFS also allows us to combine different framing methods where they make the most sense. By integrating cold-formed steel with structural steel, we have greater flexibility to engineer a framing approach that supports the design and requirements of each build.
Why Steel Framing Matters
The framing of a home plays an important role in how it comes together. Precision, planning, and coordination at this stage help establish the foundation for everything that follows.
Cold-formed steel gives us another tool to approach that process with intention. Pre-assembled components are manufactured to specific dimensions, helping create a more consistent starting point for construction. Bringing more of that process into our own facility also gives our team greater control over how framing components are produced for each project.
Most importantly, this investment supports what has always mattered to us: finding better ways to build without limiting what a custom home can be.
Custom Building Starts With the Details
While innovation in framing is an important part of the process, the finished home is where all those decisions come together.
In one of our newest luxury builds, natural stone, custom steelwork, tailored cabinetry, and carefully selected finishes work together to create a home that feels cohesive from the ground up.
Every material contributes something different. Natural stone brings texture and character. Custom steelwork adds structure and definition. Cabinetry and finishes help establish the home's overall feel. Together, these details create a space that reflects the vision behind the build.
A custom home is about more than choosing finishes or selecting a floorplan. It is about bringing the structural, architectural, and design elements together in a way that feels intentional and personal.
That approach begins long before the finishing touches. It starts with how the home is planned, engineered, and framed.
